Kirtan with Girish

Join us for an outdoor kirtan concert at The Sanctuary in East Haddam, headlined by world-renowned kirtan artist and former Hindu monk, Girish. The OMies will kick the night off.

Girish, an accomplished musician of many genres, former monk infused in spiritual practice, loving wordsmith linking lyrics and rhythm in a blissful musical event, sings traditional Sanskrit mantras with a modern, funky, yet deeply devotional twist. Accompanied by his amazing band, Girish invites his audience to participate by singing along, call and response chanting, and dancing. Girish has been recommended by “The Guardian,” “O, The Oprah Magazine,” “Yoga Journal,” “Spirituality and Health Magazine,” and more. Girish's original music catalog of seven albums is popular in yoga studios and music festivals all over the world, and his book, “Music and Mantras” (Atria/Enliven/Simon and Schuster) continues his work to teach the art of meditation through music, to the world.

The evening begins at 6:00 PM with The OMies, a blissful, heart-opening kirtan band rooted in Southeastern Connecticut. Comprised of Megan Mulrine and Justine Wheeler on harmonium, vocals, and kartals, Rebecca Pepitone on guitar, and Kevin Gallagher II on percussion, The OMies create joyful, welcoming spaces where everyone is invited to sing, connect, and share their voice. Their mission is simple: to remind all hearts of their joyful connection to the divine—and of the power of singing together in community. At 7:00 PM, Girish takes the stage.

Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting and musical meditation rooted in the Bhakti Yoga tradition. Through simple call-and-response singing, participants join together in mantra, music, and community. No singing experience is necessary—just bring an open heart.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
