The Beaver Education Initiative

This project aligns with The Sanctuary's environmental stewardship mission. Beavers are a keystone species and climate warriors. They create wetlands that store carbon, mitigate floods, and boost biodiversity. The work of the beavers in the Lower River Valley watershed is timely and impactful.

Beavers moved into the Sanctuary forest over ten years ago, creating a unique ecosystem, a forested-wetland, including a 3-acre pond out of a little stream that used to be dry by August every summer.

The Sanctuary educates local schools, engages visitors, and raises awareness of natural systems which store and cleanse water through sharing the story of our beavers. We are currently working on a documentary to highlight their extraordinary work.
