World Peace Day Kirtan Summit: Shakti Ma & Friends

Come join us to celebrate World Peace Day while welcoming in the autumnal equinox with this Bhakti yoga summit and mini yoga festival featuring SEVEN! amazing Bhakti yoga singers including Shakti Ma, TamtamZee, Nirvana Devi, Trish Reyburn, Justine Nicole Wheeler, Earth Annie, Megan Mulrine and the Rainbow Serpent Band. This event starts at 3 PM with a potluck picnic in the Sanctuary meadow (or yurt of the weather is bad.) Kirtan will begin at 4.

Shakti Ma

Aka Barbara McLeod has been described as the Janis Joplin of kirtan. A powerful wallah and long-time devotee of Bhakti yoga, Shakti Ma has led many kirtans and healing retreats with her soulful operatic voice, sharing her profound wisdom gained through her inspiring healing story and powerful faith. She is also a nimble player of the harmonium and masterful band leader. This deep musical meditation will bliss you out.

TamtamZee

Originally from Mystic, Connecticut, Tam spent three decades in New York City immersed in the study of dance, music, and rhythm. Her training embraces movement traditions of the African Diaspora, a range of Eastern and global singing styles, and the art of hand drumming and percussion. During this time, she traveled extensively throughout North and West Africa, journeys that deepened her understanding of the profound healing power of sound, movement, song, and dance—especially when experienced in community.  

Nirvana Devi

Aka Danielle Newton is owner of Be Brave Yoga in Middletown, an E-RYT 500, meditation guide and Kirtanya. A long time pracitioner of Yoga but it wasn't until music and mantra came into the picture that the true essence of the practice took root. Diving into Bhakti Yoga and infusing it into her life and spirit have facilitated some of the most profound spiritual experiences and shifts for Danielle.

Trish Reyburn

A bhakti yogi at heart and singing devotional chants in a group is one of her most favorite activities. She was a kirtan groupie in the early 2000s, following many kirtan artists up and down the east coast. She attended David Newman’s kirtan college in 2013 and began leading shortly thereafter. Trish led a yoga community through Blissworks in New London for 20 years and now enjoys writing, making art, being in nature and snuggling with her beloveds in Waterford, CT.

Justine Nicole Wheeler

Justine Nicole Wheeler is a Wild Priestess, ceremonialist, circus performer, and playful spirit who weaves mantra, movement, and magick into all she shares. A 200hr E-RYT, cacao ceremonialist, and Kirtan leader, she walks the path of embodied joy—where healing is sacred, song is medicine, and play becomes a portal to the divine.

Earth Annie

Annie returned to yoga after the loss of her best friend & Mom. She needed a safe place to land, and she needed a Sangha. Annie is a single mother of four children. She adopted & gave birth to create her own Sangha. Annie lives in a cottage by the water and nature preserve. Her home is a reflection of her love for beauty, good vegan food, friends, and animals. Committing to a practice and falling in love with Baptiste methodology, Annie became an RYT200 and then E-RYT500 after completing a 300-hour yoga teacher Recovery Yoga Teacher Training. Annie is a certified Baptiste Educator and founder of Sangha Yoga School.

Megan Mulrine

Niantic Yoga Studio owner and lead yoga teacher trainer, Megan Mulrine, has spent the last decade living in Asia (first in Iwakuni, Japan for three years, then Bali, Indonesia for the past seven years) studying yoga philosophy, Buddhism, Hinduism, and various meditative practices. During that time, she’s trained more than one thousand yoga enthusiasts to become yoga teachers, leading YTTs for various schools in Bali and the US, including her own yoga school, Yogatrotter Academy. Megan’s area of specialty is the Hindu gods and goddesses as they relate to yoga asanas and mantras.

The Rainbow Serpent

Shakti Ma will be accompanied by the Rainbow Serpent band: Tam Zezulka (vocals), Christian George (guitar) , Kevin Gallagher (percussion), Justin Good (guitar), Tique (drums) and Nick Capozza (bass).

No experience needed. Join us for this uplifting night of music and song an integral part of Bhakti Yoga. By chanting mantras together we still the egoic mind and raise our vibration contributing to more peace and healing on the planet.
