Youssoupha Sidibe

A Sufi Master of the Kora / 7 pm

An internationally renowned master of the kora, or African harp, Youssoupha’s musical career began over twenty years ago in his home of Senegal, West Africa, where he was trained at the National Music Conservatory of Senegal. He combines traditional West African sounds with Sufi devotional chanting, infusing his music with a longing for the realization of divine love in this world.

Listen to his music.

Circus Bonobo / 8 pm

A regular feature of the Sanctuary’s annual Karmic Relief event is the OmFly circus troupe, under the artistic direction of Jen Taylor. This year OmFly presents Circus Bonobo, an homage to the 15,000 left of our highly evolved genetic cousins, the Bonobos. This piece is part of a larger effort the Sanctuary is undertaking this year to raise awareness for the Bonobo Conservation Initiative.

Did you know that Senegal is the Sufi capital of the world?

Under the direction of Marci Martindale, this year students from the Tree of Life Montessori School in Old Saybrook will be participating in a mock United Nations meeting in Rome. Preparing for the role as delegates from Senegal, the students are dedicating this semester to a detailed study of this amazing West African nation. They will share some things they’ve learned and join Youssoupha in celebrating this rich tradition. Join us for this unique opportunity to engage, celebrate and reach across cultural borders.

Live Jazz with The Grays & special friends Goat Thunder and DJ Mayonoize 8:30-10pm.

Come make light of the darkness and support the Sanctuary’s mission to provide sacred, open, inclusive space and educational resources for personal transformation, community development and the restoration of the environment.
